6/26/2020

A fundamental part of becoming a thought leader is cultivating your own thought leadership brand. When your innovative ideas are so immense and favorable, the next best thing is to publicize them. Here are some ways on how you can publicize your ideas.
Picture
1) Creating an online presence

The Internet is a plethora of platforms that you can use in publishing your ideas and insights. Blogs are the most popular tool for such especially if you are going to embed videos and podcasts to your posts. What is good about these platforms is you may straightforwardly showcase your ideas. Your goal should be creating a community of regular readers and followers. With this, high quality content is key.

2) Giving public speeches

There are many ways to do so including becoming a keynote speaker and a panel member. Start small by doing public speaking on the local clubs before embarking on conferences of big corporations. You may write the local association to consider you as a speaker in their upcoming event after suggesting a relevant topic to the event theme. The goal is becoming visible to as much as diverse audience as possible.

3) Appearing on television

The first thing that you should do is to create your own media kit that you may send over to TV producers. The kit must include the topics that you may comment on. Your first target should be cable channels since they need to fill airtime. If the need arises, you will be booked to guest in a show.

4) Publishing books or e-books

This is perhaps the best way to publicize your innovative ideas through writing and publishing your own book. Since everything’s digital now, you may simply create an e-book and sell it on your website or on Amazon and eBay.

5) Winning some awards

There are award giving bodies that will give you an award because you are an attention drawer now that you’ve become a sought-after thought leader. Nevertheless, there are those that will give you an award because you deserve it. Either way, winning an award or two will always be in your favor since new opportunities, platforms and venues will be created where you may further publicize your ideas, insights and concepts. You may search for relevant award giving bodies in your industry. You need not hesitate to nominate yourself.
Regardless of how you ought to publicize your ideas, the bottom line is telling the world that your ideas and insights can change and shape the world for the better.

The Age of the Servant Leader

1/15/2020

Our corporate world it seems likes to come up with new names, titles and acronyms all the time, though the actual task involved seldom changes in any meaningful way. One such title that is currently being touted is of a “Servant Leader”.

A true leader was always supposed to be someone who truly understood the needs of his/her people. It was a person who knows how to effectively bring people together in a meaningful way and for a common cause. This person would be able to inspire confidence and drive in those they led so that everyone successfully worked towards accomplishing a common goal, a collective vision.
Picture
Such a person would work with their group and clearly chalk out their Vision and Mission statement to ensure that everyone is on the same page and has a common understanding of what it is that they need to achieve. Of course, writing out these goals helps to remove any incoherence or ambiguity.

But over time- every supervisor, manager and other senior personnel within a group started called themselves a “leader”. And so, it seems, the industry needed to coin a new term: The Servant Leader.

What a Servant Leader does is effectively perform their duties like a true leader. This is not just a person who claims to be the boss and orders people around but is someone who brings large and small groups of people together so as to create an effective team- with a common vision and a clear goal.
Picture
Above all, it is a person who recognizes the importance of each member within their group. They realize that every contribution matter and because of this they strive to ensure that every team member feels empowered and supported to best carry out their assigned tasks.

In the age of the Servant Leader, the one who leads needs to serve those who help them accomplish their objectives.

The team as a whole is cherished, and the servant leader works to ensure optimum interaction and positive dynamics!

5 Things (Except Money) That Tell Your Employee You ‘Value’ Them

1/1/2020

If there are two words that best describe the workplaces today, these are understaffed and underpaid. Given the ever-burgeoning operational expenses, not all firms are able to hire additional workers and raise the salaries of current ones.

These scenarios make providing incentives increasingly important otherwise the firm will risk losing its valued employees.

Here are the 5 things that you, as the business owner, manager or supervisor, can do to make your employees feel valued.
Picture

1) Offering telecommuting option

If some of the works can be done at home, then by all means, let your workers work at home for a day or two provided that they will constantly communicate with their direct superiors during work hours.

Your employees will definitely love the idea. This saves not only time, but also a lot of money from travel expenses among others.

2) Making unscheduled "thank-you"s

Sometimes, a simple ‘thank you’ will do. Most of the employees, if not all, just want to feel appreciated. However, most of them do not appreciate expected thanks yous like during performance-based awarding.

So, make them feel special by thanking them whenever the opportunity arises. Unscheduled thank-yous appear more genuine and sincere.

3) Mentioning positive actions

Regardless of the medium that you will use, the idea is to regard an achievement positively. This only takes a minute.

For instance, you may stop what your employees are doing and tell them that Employee X has done a superb job in closing a deal.

His or her co-employees will be happy to know this, and Employee X will receive praises from the group other than yours.

4) Hosting happy hours

Small occasions need not be lavish. You may conduct an unexpected happy hour at the office wherein you and your employees may feast on pizza and beer especially after a tiring day’s work.

Of course, you can always conduct a scheduled happy hour so that your employees will have something to anticipate on a particular date.

5) Giving personal perks

Surprise your best-performing employees with their choice of gift.

For instance, you may have a small ‘gift wall’ where they’ll put their preferred gifts. You may set a price limit. Place them on the employee’s desk before he or she arrives. This will motivate them to do well at work while having something to hope for when they do.
Evidently, making your employees feel valued is not all about money. There are many ways to let them know what you care, they are appreciated and you want them to stay.

Conducting Business, Core Team and Technology Interdependency Map Analysis

9/29/2019

Interdependency of the People, Process and Technology triangle is fairly well-known. If you are not familiar with this concept, then you can read more about it here.

The overlapping areas of the People, Process and Technology triangle indicates that all three i.e. People, Process and Technology flow together where technology empowers the functioning of a group (people) by following well-defined processes.
Picture
But when we are developing business processes, there is one more dependency we need to consider- and that is between the given business group, rest of the business of that organization and of course technology applications. This becomes even more important for Corporate Functions, since unlike line divisions, these Function teams service all of the organization in their respective areas.

For e.g. the Human Resource division will provide HR services to the entire organization. It is similar with other Functions such as IT, Facilities, Supply Chain and so on.

Such an interdependency diagram will look like this:
Picture
Any given team or group cannot and should not be working in silo. Teams within an organization are supposed to work in a collaborative manner so that all other teams that conduct any preceding or succeeding task are well informed of what is coming into their work pipeline.

Organizational Business, Core Team and Technology helps to identify these dependencies.

Key benefits of conducting such a core analysis is to:
  1. Identify dependencies between a certain group and other activities conducted by a bigger group or by rest of the organization.
  2. Identify dependencies on various technology applications- these could be applications used by the core team under consideration or by the organization at large such as their internal employee portal, external website, exchange network (email) and so on.

Becoming a courageous leader...

9/18/2019

Now-a-days, it seems like the true meaning of Leadership has got skewed. It seems like everyone thinks it is about being that boss who ‘orders’ people around! Seems like a good space to be in, particularly as we notice those who have risen the rungs of corporate leadership, not on their competency or merit but because of their seniority or some such corporate by-law loophole.

What people miss is that Leadership is not a comfortable space. It was never meant to be. It takes immense courage to make the decisions, even when all the facts may not be in or they may not provide the required clarity. Leadership is about making the BEST with what is in front of you with your vision set to where you want to go (and of course take your team with you).

And it is important to keep in mind that Leadership does not come into effect only with respect to a team. You need it even to lead a successful and happy life. You need to be a LEADER in your own life at the very minimum.
Picture
Are you willing… are you ready to ‘lead’ a vibrant life? “or” are you okay with siting on the fence- waiting that someday things will be more favorable.

Personal Leadership is not about being on the fence- but taking decisive action steps that will allow you to do the best you can in your current situation and take you further along the path you want to go towards the destination you envision for yourself.
